Much like 4th ed. D&D, a blatant attempt to separate honest gamers from there money.
Personally, I like the New Werewolves & Changelings MUCH better than the old ones. Probably a minority there, but I've always loathed the "Captain Planet" element of the 1st Werewolf books, & despise Changeling on general principles.
I've looked at the new Mage a bit and what bothered me the most was the elimination of the Traditions! I gots to have my Sons of Ether! I did kind of like the explanation of the evolution of the Tellurian and how paradox was explained.
The New Changeling is actually ideal. I bought it, read it, weighed it…it's pretty good. With a dose of Castle Falkenstein it is perfect. For those poor saps lacking in Falkenstein, I would suggest modelling Fey on the New Changeling regardless.
So, lets say that, hypothetically, I was gonna start throwing a LOT of fey creatures at players out in NC. You would suggest using new changeling, not old changeling? Any particular changes you would suggest making?
Wasn't there another game that we were considering as a Changeling replacement some time ago? I want to say it was called Nephilim or something like that. Is it worth looking into?
If you remember the name, tell me; until then, I'm gonna use Changeling: The Lost.
It was Nephilim, but that game is in fact inferior to Changeling: The Lost, which is an amazing book. It's the only NWOD I own. Jason plans on running a Changeling based character soon. That being said, a few things to bear in mind.
We don't use the scaling attribute system: Raising your Wyrd to 10 will not allow a Changeling to buy stats above 5.
The True Fae are freakishly powerful & alien. Gods-like, if not Gods unto themselves. In the Mortal world they are easily on par with a 1000 year old vampire, or any 5 werewolves. In the Hedge or, God help you, Arcadia, they are outright invincible. Use with caution. They may allow themselves to be killed or beaten as it amuses them, but an outright fight against such creatures will spell almost certain doom.
I'm glad you feel that way. I've really enjoyed what I've read so far, enough that I'm actually thinking about buying a physical copy.
I'd like to say, that I picked up a NWoD book, a basic story telling and systems rulebook, hoping for good source material. I found a gor'ram gold mine. In it is the description of a new religion. The religion of "The God-Machine" it is a beautiful steampunk creation story.
First the god-machine made angels. His first children, the angels then wanted servants. They sent the proper prayer signals to the god machine who, in turn, granted them the ability to create servants. The angels gave animals the ability to speak and walk upright, but these creatures retained their wildness and soon turned wicked. These were the second children whom men call demons. The angels then created man, and told them to spread forth and create for them a great city. Mankind did so, and did so happily. Mankind did not know death then, those whose bodies became worn traveled to the shadow of the earth to sleep and came back young and healthy. Mankind built the angels a great city that the angels then raised into the sky and put it between the moon and the sun. The angels took a third of mankind with them to serve as slaves, mankind now lived closer to the angels then ever before. Man began to resent the first children and asked the god-machine why they were treated so. The god-machine responded cryptically "What rises must fall. What has fallen must rise again." For seven years mankind debated this message. Then, while the angels slept man came upon them and killed them with their own weapons in a single night of betrayal. Only eight angels survived. As they fled, they cried out "we are undone, our time is over, but while our time was long and joyous, yours shall be short and painful" and they became known as furies. The first fury named silence fled to the center of the sun. It cursed mankind to forget how to speak to the god machine. The second was named death. It flew to the darkside of the moon and cursed mankind to forget how to travel back from the shadow of the earth. The third was named torment, who flew to venus. It split man into two beings, wyff-man and wo-man, each imperfect. The fourth was named fear, and fled to the highest mountain on earth. It cursed man to be hated by all animals on earth. The city of the angels fell from it's moorings in the stars to crash into the waters of earth and sink beneath its waves. A platinum angel, the voice of the god machine, comes to its prophets and warns them of the judgment they are under. It warns them of the second children who try to trap them and the four remaining first children who continue to bide there time. Three of the four wait beneath the earth till permutations of the god machine allow them to properly release their powers. One of the angels came to rest in Australia. Thinking it was safe, it fell asleep to rest and heal its wounds. As soon as it did so the tribes of Australia gathered around it, they realized the hatred in the angels dreams and feared it. The eldest and most powerful storytellers of the tribe gathered together and wove a deep and pleasant dream into the fury's mind. They began to pile soil on top of it and this resting place is now called Ula-ru.
There is a lot more too it, but I'm sure you can find the actual book excerpt yourself.
Just thought I'd let people know about what they were missing out on.
